Understanding N-P-K: The Building Blocks of Fertilizer

Every bag of fertilizer carries three numbers on the label — something like 5-3-2 or 4-4-4. These are the N-P-K ratios, and understanding them is the first step to feeding your garden intelligently.

Nitrogen (N) — The Green Machine

Nitrogen drives leafy, vegetative growth. Plants that are nitrogen-deficient turn pale yellow and grow slowly. High-nitrogen sources in our blends include:

• Bat guano (high-N varieties)
• Fish meal
• Blood meal (fast-release)

Phosphorus (P) — Root & Bloom Builder

Phosphorus supports root development, flower formation, and fruit set. Without adequate phosphorus, plants may produce few flowers or fail to set fruit.

• Bone meal and fish bone meal are our primary phosphorus sources
• Rock phosphate provides slow, long-term phosphorus

Potassium (K) — The Stress Shield

Potassium regulates water movement within the plant, strengthens cell walls, and improves resistance to disease, drought, and cold.

• Kelp meal and greensand are excellent potassium sources
• Granite dust adds potassium alongside trace minerals
